la fleur de la courge - the squash blossom

My wife and I are tending a garden for our neighbor who is off on vacation for a few weeks.  One of the rewards is finding little jewels like this.  Of course, he is growing this for the squash that he will harvest latter, but I found this squash-blossom to be a real treat in itself.  Plus it doesn't hurt that I also find the term squash-blossom just delicious.

  1. Do you spray or squirt water on the flowers for added texture? It's a nice trick sometimes. Great close up shot.

    1. This is early morning dew... well, actually it was from a little light rain shower before the sun came out. But the former sounds so much better.

  2. Beautiful! Our garden is filled with these golden zucchini blossoms, and my husband's hop vines are headed skyward as well. It's a banner year for veggie gardens here in NE Ohio.

    1. Recent weeks have been tough on the vegetation of all kinds here. High temperatures and no rain. So if one is good about watering, then things are mostly fine.
